Struck from copper more than 195 years ago, the Half Cent represents the smallest denomination ever issued for circulation by the United States Mint, making it a distinctive piece of early U.S. monetary history.
Designed by John Reich, the obverse features Liberty facing left with flowing hair secured by a headband inscribed LIBERTY. This particular variety is distinguished by the 12 stars surrounding Liberty, rather than the 13 stars found on another 1828 variety. The reverse displays the denomination HALF CENT within a wreath, surrounded by the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Graded Good (G), this coin exhibits heavy but honest circulation wear consistent with its nearly two centuries of history. The date, major portrait features, wreath, and other primary design elements remain identifiable, while much of the finer detail has worn smooth.
