1853 Braided Hair Large Cent - Fine

Struck from copper, this substantial one-cent piece comes from the final years of the Large Cent denomination, shortly before the U.S. Mint transitioned to the smaller cent format in 1857.
Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with her hair arranged in the distinctive braided style that gives the series its name. Thirteen stars surround Liberty, with the date 1853 positioned below.
The reverse displays the denomination ONE CENT surrounded by a detailed wreath, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircling the design. Its large copper planchet gives the coin a substantial size and appearance compared with modern U.S. cents.
In Fine (F) condition, this coin exhibits moderate circulation wear while retaining clearly recognizable major design elements. Liberty's portrait, coronet, date, stars, reverse wreath, denomination, and surrounding lettering remain visible and well defined for the grade.
