1865 Two Cent Piece - XF
Add a fascinating piece of Civil War-era American coinage to your collection with this 1865 Two Cent Piece in Extremely Fine (XF) condition. Struck from 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, the Two Cent Piece was a short-lived denomination produced by the United States Mint from 1864 through 1873.
Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse features a Union shield surrounded by a wreath and topped with arrows. Above the shield appears the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The Two Cent Piece holds an important place in U.S. numismatic history as the first United States coin to bear the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The reverse features the denomination 2 CENTS surrounded by a wheat wreath, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircling the design.
In Extremely Fine (XF) condition, this coin exhibits light circulation wear while retaining considerable original design detail. The shield, motto, wreath, denomination, lettering, and other major elements remain sharply defined, giving the coin strong eye appeal for a circulated example more than 160 years old.
