Struck at the San Francisco Mint from 90% silver and 10% copper, the Twenty Cent Piece was introduced in 1875 but lasted only a few years, making it a fascinating piece of 19th-century U.S. coinage.
Designed by William Barber, the obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a liberty pole and cap while resting beside a shield inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse depicts an eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch, with the denomination TWENTY CENTS displayed below. The "S" mintmark identifies this coin as a San Francisco Mint issue.
Graded Very Good (VG), this coin displays moderate to heavy circulation wear while retaining clearly identifiable major design elements. The date, mintmark, seated Liberty, eagle, and surrounding lettering remain visible, giving the coin plenty of historic character.
