1883 Liberty Head V Nickel "No Cents" - VF
Add a fascinating piece of American numismatic history to your collection with this 1883 Liberty Head V Nickel, featuring the famous No Cents variety in Very Fine (VF) condition. Struck from 75% copper and 25% nickel, this first-year issue belongs to the Liberty Head Nickel series, produced from 1883 through 1913.
Designed by Charles E. Barber, the obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a coronet, surrounded by 13 stars. The reverse displays a large Roman numeral V within a decorative wreath. The original 1883 design omitted the word CENTS, leading to instances of gold-plated nickels being passed off as five-dollar gold coins. The Mint subsequently added CENTS to the reverse later that year, creating two collectible varieties.
In Very Fine (VF) condition, this coin exhibits moderate circulation wear while retaining well-defined design details, including visible features in Liberty's hair and coronet.
Its first-year status, famous No Cents variety, and intriguing history make this 1883 Liberty Head Nickel an appealing addition to any classic U.S. coin collection.
