Struck from 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, this historic cent comes from the early years of the Lincoln Cent series and features the classic Wheat Reverse design.
Designed by Victor David Brenner, the obverse features a right-facing portrait of President Abraham Lincoln, with IN GOD WE TRUST above, LIBERTY to the left, and the date 1913 to the right. The “S” mintmark beneath the date identifies this coin as having been struck at the San Francisco Mint.
The reverse features two wheat ears framing ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with E PLURIBUS UNUM above. This iconic Wheat Reverse was used on Lincoln Cents from 1909 through 1958.
In Very Fine (VF) condition, this coin exhibits moderate circulation wear while retaining strong overall detail. Lincoln's portrait, hair and facial features, date and mintmark, reverse wheat ears, lettering, and other major design elements remain clearly defined.
The 1913-S had a relatively low original mintage compared with many Philadelphia issues of the era, giving it added appeal among collectors building early Lincoln Cent date-and-mint sets. With its San Francisco Mint origin, early date, and strong VF detail, this example makes an excellent addition to a Wheat Cent or Lincoln Cent collection.
