1914-S Barber Quarter - Good Details (Pitting)
Add a desirable San Francisco Mint issue to your Barber coinage collection with this 1914-S Barber Quarter in Good (G) Details condition. Struck from 90% silver and 10% copper, the 1914-S comes from the final years of the Barber Quarter series, which was produced from 1892 through 1916.
Designed by Charles E. Barber, Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, the obverse features a right-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap and laurel wreath. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with a shield on its chest, clutching arrows and an olive branch. The “S” mintmark beneath the eagle identifies this example as having been struck at the San Francisco Mint.
In Good (G) Details condition, this coin shows heavy circulation wear while retaining an identifiable date and recognizable major design elements. Liberty's portrait, reverse eagle, denomination, and portions of the surrounding lettering remain visible.
This example exhibits Pitting, meaning portions of the coin's surfaces contain small depressions or cavities caused by corrosion or other environmental exposure. This surface damage prevents the coin from receiving a straight numerical grade. Despite the impairment, the 1914-S is a better-date Barber Quarter, making this Details example an affordable way to fill a tougher hole in a date-and-mint collection.
