1917 Standing Liberty Quarter - Type 1 - VF
Add one of the most distinctive early Standing Liberty designs to your collection with this 1917 Standing Liberty Quarter – Type 1 in Very Fine (VF) condition. Struck from 90% silver and 10% copper, the Type 1 design was used only during 1916 and part of 1917, making it a popular and historically significant subtype among collectors.
Designed by Hermon A. MacNeil, the obverse features Liberty standing between two gateways, holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The Type 1 design is distinguished by Liberty's exposed right breast, a feature that was modified later in 1917 with the introduction of the Type 2 design. The reverse depicts an eagle in flight with stars positioned along the sides.
Graded Very Fine (VF), this coin exhibits moderate circulation wear while retaining strong overall detail. Liberty's figure, shield, gown, date, and surrounding design elements remain clearly visible, while the flying eagle retains pleasing definition.
