1936-D Mercury Dime - AU
Add a sharp Denver Mint silver dime to your collection with this 1936-D Mercury Dime in About Uncirculated (AU) condition. Struck from 90% silver and 10% copper, the Mercury Dime—officially known as the Winged Liberty Head Dime—is one of the most celebrated designs in American coinage.
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse features a young Liberty wearing a winged cap, symbolizing freedom of thought. The design's resemblance to the Roman god Mercury led to the popular nickname “Mercury Dime.” The date 1936 appears below Liberty, with the “D” mintmark on the reverse identifying this example as having been struck at the Denver Mint.
The reverse features a fasces, symbolizing strength through unity, alongside an olive branch representing peace. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, and E PLURIBUS UNUM complete the classic design.
In About Uncirculated (AU) condition, this coin retains excellent overall detail with only slight traces of circulation wear on the highest points of the design. Much of the original detail and potentially significant mint luster remain, giving the coin strong visual appeal just below the Uncirculated grade range.
