Every year, Calgary hosts the Calgary Stampede, a ten-day rodeo and exhibition. Beginning in 1963, trade dollar tokens were issued as souvenirs, redeemable for one dollar in Calgary before an expiry date, though most were kept as keepsakes, generating profit for both the mint and the Stampede. Starting in 1976, the coins featured one of four privy marks—the boot, hat, horseshoe, or saddle. This five-coin nickel/steel set includes The Cowboy Hat, The Cowboy Boot, The Saddle, The Horseshoe, and a $5.00 Medallion honoring legendary world champion bronc rider Pete Knight.
