Add a classic piece of mid-19th-century American copper coinage to your collection with this 1851 Braided Hair Large Cent in Very Fine (VF) condition. Struck from copper, this substantial one-cent piece comes from the final decade of the Large Cent denomination and offers a fascinating look at the coinage Americans used in everyday commerce before the introduction of the smaller Flying Eagle Cent in 1857.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with her hair arranged in a distinctive braided style. Thirteen stars surround the portrait, with the date 1851 positioned below.

The reverse displays the denomination ONE CENT surrounded by a detailed wreath, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircling the design. The large copper planchet gives the coin a substantial size and appearance compared with modern U.S. cents.

In Very Fine (VF) condition, this coin exhibits moderate circulation wear while retaining strong overall design definition. Liberty's portrait, hair and coronet details, date, stars, reverse wreath, denomination, and surrounding lettering remain clearly recognizable.

With its classic Braided Hair design, substantial copper planchet, and pre-Civil War date, the 1851 Large Cent makes an excellent addition to a U.S. type set, Large Cent collection, or collection of historic American copper coinage.
